Majorca/Mallorca, is the largest of the Balearic Islands, which along with her sister islands of Menorca and Ibiza, collectively known as the Balearic Islands, and has an average of some 300 days of sunshine every year.
The Balearic Islands are nestled just a short distance off the South east coast of mainland Spain, in the legendary Mediterranean Sea, with flying time from most UK Airports being around two to two and a half hours, and local time being one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
The Islands name of Majorca/Mallorca's two spellings is derived of two different but recognised languages spoken in Majorca, as we have explained below, but to prevent annoying repetition, we shall use the spelling of the Islands native tongue of the Catalan language, which is written as Majorca.
When flying into Majorca Son Sant Joan main airport, South of the island just outside of the capital Palma, and North of C'an Pastilla, then the first recognisable landmark on the final approach before landing is the magnificent and timeless 14th Century, Gothic cathedral in neighbouring Palma, giving you a truly magnificent and awe inspiring visual inspiration to the start of your holiday.
These islands are a true paradise to the holiday maker who needs to pursue and fulfil their holiday activities and passions, no matter what they may be, and so we have provided a full range of activities section to our site, with the specific location of each or collective activities.
We also use using the capital of Palma and the Son Sant Joan International airport as the 'Holiday Hub', showing the travel time to these locations, be it a beach or full holiday resort.
There is a choice of 50 beaches, with many of them being 'blue flag' beaches, with the choice of all water sports available, which include including windsurfing, surfing, scuba diving and fun water parks, fantastic and challenging 24 golf courses across the island, plus many 'mini golf courses, plus of course night clubbing resorts!.
The panoramic landscapes of the Tramuntana Mountains, and the cycling/mountain/rock climbing challenges these mountains present. Not to mention being a photographers heaven as well!
Also, there are the many ancient settlements of the Romans, the Moors and the Christians, who have left their influences on this island since time began.
Not forgetting Frederick Chopin and his long suffering mistress George Sand, who left an historic and well documented account of their stay at Valledemossa, and of course more recently, tourism.
Eco tourism is important in Majorca, as with all of the Balearic Islands, and is taken very seriously.
Majorca or Mallorca?
Package tourism began as far back a 1952 in Majorca/Mallorca, which has since remained a popular holiday destination, but with many not understanding the difference in spelling and pronunciation of the same island.
Majorca is from the Catalan language, which is the native tongue of Majorca, and the local dialect being that of Mallorqui, as well as being the national and official language of Andorra, whilst the Mallorca spelling, is from the Spanish or Castilian language.
Both languages are from the Latin based 'Romance' group of languages, and are both classed as the official language of this magnificent, and largest, of the Balearic Islands.

A point worth mentioning, is that resorts such as C'an Pastilla, which is right on the perimeter of the Son Sant Joan International Airport, may well be convenient for the short shuttle time, but it does have the disadvantage of a degree of daily and night time aircraft noise: Mainly those of the take offs, as the landings are much quieter.
We have provided the activities buttons, which are shown under 'Topics Links' below, which include:
