Beaches

Majorca Beaches Overview

We strive to give our clients as much accurate information as possible, we are a family built company, who take great pride in what we do, and why we do it: therefore, we try to avoid the typical 'glib' and 'glossy' sounding representations which are often made on resorts and beaches.

We are asking our clients to please give us their feedback on our web site, by using the blog/complaints facility buttons shown on the tool bar above.

We are listening, and we will react immediately to put right any updated information from our clients regarding these resorts and beaches.

There are always the 'over-development' areas.  Majorca is no different, and many first time holiday makers fall into this trap, the experienced have learned this lesson, they know where to go!

We do not presume to know just exactly what our clients are looking for in a beach, or its surroundings, so our descriptions are as accurate and as brief as possible, so that our clients can make their own informed decisions.

There will be some once beautiful beaches which are now perhaps not up to the standard one would expect. There will also be, as always, the exaggerated areas, where possible down sides have been left unsaid, for the unfortunate holiday maker to find out for themselves.

Some beaches may not have effectively been cleaned, or, a local and daily strong breeze is so strong, that it makes it impossible to lie out on the beach, or, the sand is coarse and rocky, this is where we would appreciate our client's feedback to keep our site fully up to date for all to use with confidence.

So then, in beach alphabetical order below, we show some 14 beach locations, with descriptions, which we hope you, will find your ideal holiday with us.

Please note that 'Cala' translates into Bay.

Beaches

Cala Agulla - Cala Anguila - Cala Deia - Cala Falco - Cala Formentor - Cala Mondrago - Cala Portals Vells -Cala Santanyi - Cala Varques - Puerto Portals/Portals Nous Beach -  S'Amarador Beach -  Sa Calobra Beach -Sa Rapita Beach  -  Sant Pere Beach.

Cala Agulla, an  Excellent Family Beach

This is a fine and white sandy beach, which is surrounded by nature's glory of ancient pine forests and mountain ranges.

Its location is in a protected area close to Capdepara, and so has remained natural and unspoilt.

The sea is clear and shallow, and has water sports facilities, pay car parking facilities, restaurants and bars, and naturally therefore, popular in the summer months.

Cala Anguila Beach is Good for families and caving

A fine golden white, and sandy beach, which is surrounded by cliffs. This is a small secluded beach which stretches back some 150 Metres from the sea.

With a reasonable shallow tide of the clear turquoise sea, (be warned, tidal), which if the tide is favourable, will enable you to explore the ancient caves along this coast line.

It is essential you have local and expert guidance on the tidal situation before you take on this adventure.

Location is three kilometres from Porto Cristo, but with a limited parking on the village streets, with no facilities on the beach, but with one restaurant a short walk away.

An excellent 'adventure' beach for the family.

Important safety note on Cala Anguila

Seek expert local guidance, and perhaps a take a guide with you, before venturing out on your own to investigate these caves.

We strongly advise you to never venture out on your own to investigate these wonderful caves, for fear of you being trapped in by the tide.

Cala Deia Beach,

Cala Deia village south of Magaluf, is a superb lunch retreat.

A short walk down from the village of Cala Deia is an idyllic but small shingle beach with rock pools and clear waters.

The car parking is very limited. There are two superb restaurants there, where you can soak in the wonderful ambience over a long and unforgettable lunch.

It is advisable to take your own beach chairs if you can.

Cala Falco Beach Ideal for Snorkelling/Scuba Diving, South of Magaluf.

You will need a car to reach this Snorkelling/Scuba diving haven, which even has its own ship wreck to explore to the east of this beach.

The location is south of Magaluf, where the sea is, as always, beautifully clear and shallow.

This small but exclusive beach, surrounded by pine forests, with its rock formed outlets, and its unique, small but fully equipped beach bar, which supplies you with sun beds and parasols, makes for a perfect and secluded Snorkelling/Scuba diving haven.

Take careful note of the next directions:

Driving south from Magaluf in the directions towards Cala Figuera/Cala Falco you will pass through Cala Vinyes.

A one way system awaits you as you drive into Cap de Figuera, (so easy to get confused with these names!), so, keeping to the right, you then take the road to your right keeping a keen eye out for the beach signs. There is free parking provided, with access to the beach being via steps.

Cala Formentor Beach  - Pure relaxation, surrounded by such natural beauty.

Renowned for being one of Majorca's most perfect settings, with as always the crystal clear, turquoise blue sea lapping against the very fine and white sand beach.

Although it is a narrow beach, with majestic pine forests and mountain ranges in the distance behind you, so being narrow, perhaps not such a good play ground for children.

The location is some 20 km north west of Port de Pollenca, and there is a public bus service and a car park, which at the last count was a 5€ parking fee.

Because it is so popular, one should try and get to this location early.

Cala Mondrago Beach A natural beauty spot, with cycling, horse riding and walking.

Cala Mondrago is situated within a National Park; therefore it has been protected from over-development, and is considered to be an area of outstanding natural beauty.

With sand dunes, pine forests and rocky coves, it is popular with nature-lovers and locals.

There are sun loungers to rent and a restaurant.

The area also has walking, cycling and horse riding trails.

It is situated 8 km south of Cala d'Or and free car parking is available.

Cala Portals Vells - Superb for walking, hiking, and is next to Majorca's official nudist beach.

A bumpy track from Magalluf leads through pine woods to this beautiful cove at the southwest tip of Palma bay.

Drive past the Western Water Park, and keep straight one once you have passed the BP petrol station.

In summer it gets crowded, but out of season you could almost be in your own private beach, with golden sand, rocky cliffs and shimmering turquoise water.

It is a popular anchorage for yachtsmen, who moor in the cove.

The beach next to Portals Vells is El Mago, and for those who love to be free, we have included this area in our website, for EI Mago is Mallorca's official nudist beach.

From the main beach, a brisk hike along the cliffs will bring you to the Cove de la Mare de Deu, which is a rock chapel built by fishermen to give thanks for a safe landing.

A further 2km up the road, and you have reached the headland of Cap de Cala Figuera, where you look back at the magnificent panoramic views of the entire bay of Palma.El Mago.

Cala Santanyi Beach Good for families and snorkelling

Because of its location right next to a number of tourist hotels, Cala Santanyi beach is very popular, with lovely fine sand, and lying in a pretty cove, with rocky cliffs and pine forests.

The resort-style hotels overlooking the beach have been said to detract from the natural beauty of the place, but on the positive side, they make for a convenient holiday stay there.

The sea is shallow and calm making it safe for children.

Sheltered waters also make it an ideal area for snorkelling, and is located some 6 km from Santanyi .

There is limited car parking next to the beach, and a couple of beach cafes and a supermarket in the village.

Cala Varques Beach Peaceful and Isolated from the maddening crowd, but:

Not recommended for children, due the sea depth.

Cala Varques is a quiet and unspoilt beach located approximately 12 km from Porto Cristo.

Being fairly isolated, the best way is to approach it, is from the sea, but, if you decide to drive, you need to take the road from Porto Colom to Porto Cristo.

En Route, once you have passed the turn off for Manacor, you take the right hand turn signposted to Cala Falco.

You can then park up alongside a fence on the right-hand side.

An approximate but beautiful 15 minute walk down the path there will lead you to the beach here. The beach has white sand and, please be warned that the water is clear, but fairly deep, with no services nearby.

Puerto Portals/Portals Nous Beach

The beach at Puerto Portals (to the east of the harbour) is a small family beach frequented by locals.

The usual soft golden sand with clear shallow waters - but why it is popular with yachtsmen, locals, and holidaymakers alike, is that this beach has its very own beach bar at the end of promontory.

Roxy's beach bar is one of those places where you think you will stop in for a quick drink/snack, and end up staying until the sun goes down!

S'Amarador Beach Superb location, with walking trails

S'Amarador Beach was voted Europes Best Beach in 2009, which has a beautiful white sandy beach, that is part of Mondrago National Park, and therefore totally unspoilt.

This beach is surrounded by cliffs and pine forests, the beach, made from soft white sand and is small but deep. A favourite beach on the island of many, however, the isolated location means only those with cars or boats can access it.

The colour of the sea, a deep turquoise will mesmerize you!

A few bars and restaurants and free car parking is available, with many fantastic walking trails in this area a 'must have' for those who love walking.

Sa Calobra Beach Torrent de Pareis:

This is one of Majorca's most famous natural beauty spots, but difficult to get to.- A cyclists haven

Sa Calobra is a unique, part pebble, part sand beach, which is situated at the end of a gorge made from the Torrent de Pareis.

Sa Calobra beach is acclaimed as one of the most famous beauty spots on the island, the beauty of which has inspired many artists in the past.

As a result, over-development has taken its toll, thus throughout the year, coach loads of tourists descend on the place.

The coaches are a hazard in themselves as they wind their up and down these twisting and turning mountain roads, which as to be expected are steep!, never mind the hundreds of road cyclists that take on the challenge of the descent/ascent being one of the best, it is not a journey to be undertaken by the fainthearted the car driver!

Approximately one hour's drive from the junction off the Ma-10 (the road north from Soller, between Morro de sa Vaca and Morro de sa Corda).

Clearly you must give yourself plenty of time for your journey, but, to make your memories even more golden of your visit to Sa Calobra Beach and Torrent de Pareis, we recommend you travel by boat, and, preferably out of season.

Sa Rapita Beach Families and Windsurfing

As an alternative to Es Trenc, here is the beach at S'Arenal de sa Rapita.

It is much quieter than Es Trenc, and is popular with families, surfers and windsurfers.

The wide beach consists of fine white sand and the clear shallow water is a beautiful shade of turquoise.

The beach backs on to sand dunes and a pine forest, making it one of the more beautiful natural beaches on the island.

Sa Rapita is situated 11 kilometres from Campos and there is a pay car park at the beach.

Sant Pere Beach Peace and tranquillity, and families

Sant Pere, Mal Pas is a charming small beach snuggled between two rocky stretches of coastline.

You can enjoy beautiful views of the Formentor peninsula from the fine white sand beach.

The clear and shallow waters make it suitable for children, although there is not so much space available for playing.

This small beach is situated close to the village of Mal Pas, and there are free car parking facilities, with only one toilet, being the only services provided on this beach.
