Carnivals & Fiestas

Carnivals, Fiestas, Events and Fiestas in Majorca and Palma de Majorca

Across the world, carnivals and fiestas in their many different forms have their own story to tell, since mankind inhabited the earth. Yes, as far back as that!

The problem is that the true origin of these 'events' very quickly becomes lost, due to folk lore, inhabitants imaginations, and the longer the history of these events develops, the further they leave the truth behind them of their origins.

Rather likened to the story of 'Chinese Whispers'. (Where you have a queue of 100 people in line, you pass on a short brief message to the first in the queue, say 5 words? What do you get at the end of the queue?)

We shall leave that to your imagination, but one thing is for sure, the last person standing in the queue will have a far different message!

So then, you are on holiday, in the magic of Majorca, so let the magic take hold of you, and sweep you into the 'Chinese Whisper' mode as you watch and enjoy, and in many cases anticipate in the many and splendid occasions in Majorca.

The origins of which are mostly of a religious/spiritual background, but all have a fascinating story to tell.

The Christian conquest for example.

Every town and village in Majorca have their saint's day, all marked by a street party with music, dancing, fireworks and fancy dress.

Battles are acted out between devils and heroic women, or Christians and Moors; people prance about as horses, as they live out their celebrations.

The local tourist information office is your best source of information to find out what is going on, with the public transport being very good and well linked to these celebrations, especially in the holiday resorts.
